Windows 7 is the best OS until date from Microsoft. It is more secure and robust when compared to its predecessors Vista and XP. However, Microsoft still recommends its users to install a security software to help protect their PC from viruses, worms and other security threats.
Microsoft also advises the users to use a genuine security software and keep it up-to-date with the latest updates available .
Virus : is executable program that can infect other genuine programs by modifying it. A virus might corrupt or delete data on your computer, use your email program to spread itself to other computers, or even erase everything on your hard disk.
To protect yourself from such lethal viruses and malwares, you will need a powerful and comprehensive anti-virus application.
Antivirus application : is a computer program that detects, prevents, and takes action to disarm or remove malicious software programs, such as viruses and worms from your computer. These days anti-virus applications provide a lot of additional features along with essential protection.

This is quite a tricky one to answer. Most of you reading this may come up with hundred different names, with hundred different reasons justifying it. But let me not specify my personal choice here as Microsoft has its own list of security partners as shown in the image below.
If you are a fan of Microsoft, then you should definitely consider their Microsoft Security Essentials.(a free anti-malware solution for your computer that helps you protect your computer against viruses, spyware, and other malicious software.)
There is one more important thing which I wanted to tell you guys. Do not try and install security softwares other than ones mentioned above . Because there are few companies which use products that seem to be anti-virus programs to install viruses or malware on your computer.
When you install such a software, you will also be installing the virus or other malware, without even knowing it. So, you should be careful enough to know about the anti-virus and other products before downloading and installing them.
One more small piece of advise which I wanted to give you is that before you install an anti-virus software, make sure you don’t already have one running on your PC.
If you do, be sure to remove the anti-virus that you don’t need anymore before you install the new one as it can cause certain compatibility issues on your computer to have two different anti-virus products installed at the same time.
