APK file stands for Android Package file. Well, you might think why you need .apk files when you haveGoogle Play Store. Google Play Store shows you the apps that are allowed in your region and there are many apps in Google Play Store, which shows incompatible with your Smartphone, but it might work on your phone. So, in these cases you might need to search for the .apk file in Google (which is easily available) and then install it in your Smartphone manually.
Android developers who have not posted their apps in Google Play Store offer .apk files. These .apk files are installer files just like the .exe installers that work with Windows. In order to install .apk file, first you need to transfer the file to your SD card.
The easiest way is, connect the USB from your PC to Smartphone, on phone screen click on “Tap to transfer files form Computer to Mobile” and then transfer the .apk file in any new folder.
Now, Go to Settings > Applications > Check “Unknown Sources” to allow installation of non-Market applications on your Android Smartphone.
Now browse to the folder where you have stored .apk file in your SD card, Click on the .apk file to install it.
Note: If your Android device doesn’t support direct viewing of SD card, Install Astro File managerfirst, to browse your SD card files and folders.
That is it. Now you can install any application in your Smartphone even if you don’t find that app in Google Play Store.
