Google Chrome is one of the most popular web browsers in the world, thanks to the continuous efforts of its development team; not to mention the giant marketing machine that is the Big G. As of October of this year, Google Chrome has 44.9% of the market, beaten only by Internet Explorer with 16.1% and Firefox with 31.8%. (Source)
One might say that Google Chrome is the sleekest and fastest web browser out there, and that wouldn’t be far from the truth. If you think about it, it’s almost a shame to use extensions that might slow down the browser. With a little discernment and self-control in installing extensions, your browsing experience can be further enhanced, though.
Here are my top picks for Google Chrome extensions.
If you work online, and you need to take a lot of screenshots, Awesome Screenshot will be your best friend. You can choose to capture the visible part of the screen, a selection, or the entire web page. You can even edit your screenshot before saving it, either online or on your hard drive.
This extension almost always makes it to any related list I make. If you use Safari, you’ll find it on my list of must-have Safari extensions – and for good reason. I have nothing against ads per se, but there are some web sites which have way too many ads, and that really takes away from the experience. If you want to experience web in a different – more pleasant way – then you ought to install AdBlock on Chrome.
This is the only extension you’ll need if you have trouble remembering your passwords, or if you tend to use really bad passwords. You simply have to remember your LastPass password, and you can opt for autofill or autologin for all the web sites you save in LastPass.
This extension is perfect for those who are paranoid about security. Or if you share your computer with someone else. The idea is to clean all traces of your online activities from your local system. Sure, you can do this with builtin Chrome features, but the extension makes it more convenient.
If you’re a social media enthusiast, and you share links regularly, Buffer is a great way to make sure you don’t bug people on your stream. Schedule your tweets/posts according to your preference, and monitor the number of clicks/shares/RTs that you get.
All of the above extensions can be found in the Chrome Web Store.
