Top 10 Best Backup Android Apps

Currently there’s over 700,000 apps in the Google Play Store, which brings a lot of choices for apps to use to backup your device. That can be overwhelming for most users. So we’ve gone through the Play Store and found 10 of the best backup apps. Including ROM backups, SMS/MMS backups, and more. If we’ve missed any, be sure to let us know in the comments below. Let’s get started with number ten.

10. Backup Assistant Plus (Verizon only)

Verizon has many apps that it installs on your device before shipping it out to you. One is Backup Assistant Plus. And if you’re a Verizon user, you’ll want to use this. You can backup daily your music, pictures, videos, documents and more. There’s a free package from Verizon which is 500MB. Then the next step is 25GB for $2.99 a month. This is a good app to have around, as a “just in case”. But again, it’s only available for Verizon users unfortunately.

9. ROM Toolbox 

ROM Toolbox is one of those apps that’s a must have for anyone that’s rooted. It allows you to download new ROMs, and updates directly from the App. It also has a root file browser, font installer, and many more customizations for you to choose from. You can also backup your entire phone in its’ current state. Also known as a nandroid backup. There is a free version and a paid version. I recommend trying out the free version first, and if it’s something you like go ahead and get the paid version. It’s totally worth the money.

8. SMS Backup & Restore

Here we have another Backup & Restore app that backs up your SMS messages. They get backed up into an XML format that can then be sent to your gmail or some other place. So it doesn’t quite use cloud storage, but pretty close. You can also schedule backups to occur everyday, or as little as once a week. It’s just that simple. If you’re someone that never wants to delete a text message, this the app for you.

7. AOKP Backup

If you’re like me and you always have AOKP installed and are constantly updating to the newest build, this is the app for you. It will backup all your settings from ROM control. Including your battery icon, performance tweaks and more. It’s great to have around so you aren’t always having to redo your settings every time you update to a new build of AOKP.

6. Sandisk Memory Zone

We all know Sandisk for their SD cards right? Well now they have a backup app for Android that works pretty well. This one you do not need to be rooted to use. It’ll back up everything from music, to pictures, to apps, and more. It can back it up to the cloud as well, including Dropbox and Box.net (Box). It hasn’t yet been updated to back up to Google Drive unfortunately. But hopefully that’s coming soon.

5. ROM Manager

ROM Manager is probably the most popular Root app out there. And rightfully so. It’s been around for as long as I can remember. With ROM Manager you can download new ROMs, install from your SD card, update your version of Clockworkmod Recovery, make backups and so much more. It’s a great app for anybody new to Android and wants to get into Rooting and ROM-ing.

4. SMS Backup+

This is one of my all-time favorite backup apps. SMS Backup+ is so simple its unreal. It basically backs up your SMS/MMS/call logs to your Gmail. So you can view all your text messages and your call logs in Gmail under there appropriate labels. Now There are two versions. One is themed to work with Android 4.x design guidelines, the other is the original app. The link below is the one with Android 4.x design, and they both work exactly the same.

3. MyBackup

MyBackup claims they are the #1 backup app on Android, but I don’t agree. We’ll get into that a little later. MyBackup Pro is a simple app with a simple interface. It allows you to backup and restore apps, media and data. So it’s kind of like a one-stop-shop when you install a fresh ROM on your device. There is a free version which is limited to a 30-day trial and a paid version which is $4.99 (at the time of writing this).

2. App Backup & Restore

This app does exactly what it says, it backs up and restores your apps. It can back them up to your SD card, it can do a batch backup, restore apps from the SD card, and do a batch restore. Along with many other features. This app has also been around for a long time, and gets better with every update. So go ahead and give this one a go.

1. Titanium Backup

Titanium Backup is probably the best backup app we've ever seen on any mobile platform. I've used for quite a while now and love it. There is so much you can do with Titanium Backup. You can set it up to backup as many times a week as you want and then upload it to Box, Dropbox  or Google Drive. It’s just that simple. And new in Titanium Backup you can now create an update.zip of all your apps and data and flash it with your new ROM. No more downloading Titanium backup from the Play Store then waiting for it to re-download all your apps and data. It’s very easy and you should try it out.
