Some things are not made for all. We like to call them as concepts. With Ubuntu Edge, the idea is not to bring just another phone with even higher specifications, but to change the whole perception of what a phone today is! Aimed at bridging the gap between a personal computer and a cellphone; Ubundu Edge, is a proposed super phone by Canonical Ltd. which can double up as your PC. (not a typo.)
The Ubuntu Edge is a very ambitious project, and only 40,000 units would be produced in total. The phone will not be mass produced but would be used for demonstration of new technologies in the mobile device industry. Ubuntu Edge, aims to have the highest target amount of $32,000,000 through crowdfunding till date over a span of a month.
Ubuntu Edge would be capable of dual booting Ubuntu and Android. When used witha monitor, keyboard and mouse; it will be able to run a full fledged Ubuntu desktop system. So, instead of having two devices, your phone would be the personal computer you can carry anywhere.
The specifications of the phone are mindblowing, literally. The company is aiming to outfit the Ubuntu Edge with,
- A Quad core CPU
- 4 Gigs of RAM
- 128 GB of internal storage
- 1280×720 p Display constructed of Sapphire glass
- 4G LTE / NFC / Bluetooth 4.0
- 8 MP rear / 2 MP front facing camera.
Its built to dazzle, and with the mobility of a smartphone and the power of a desktop. Its living the sci-fi. Follwing video will be enough to let you know how great the project is,
With an introductory price tag of $600 , its not that out of reach either; considering the unlocked iPhones cost more than that. The finished products would start rolling out in May 2014.
Recent news include that the company is facing trouble in reaching its crowdfunding target of $32,000,000, but we sincerely wish that they do. Or, the next revolution of handheld devices will get a setback.
