Android 2.2 froyo and Android 2.3 gingerbread are the two versions of the smartphone operating system ANDROID developed by Google. While Ice-cream sandwich, Android 4.0 has been recently launched, but these two Android versions are still ruling the market. Most of the android phones launched recently are coming with Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Here we will help you in understanding the difference between Android froyo and gingerbread.
Android 2.2 Froyo was released in May 2010 and Android 2.3 the Gingerbread was released on 6th Dec 2010. The user experience has been considerably improved and there are loads of new features to enjoy in Gingerbread.

Android 2.2 had two revisions. Android 2.2.1 was the first revision released in May 2010. Android 2.2.1 included some improvements on Gmail application and Exchange Active Sync, widgets improvement and bug fixes.  Android 2.2.2 was released in June 2010. It was released mainly to address the email bug that randomly forward the text messages in the inbox. But later on most of the android devices started coming with Android 2.2.2.

  9. Supports for NFC (Near Field Communication) which is a high speed data communication mechanism operates in high frequency within a short range (10 cm).
  10. New audio effects such as reverb, equalization, headphone virtualization, and bass boost.
  11.  Support for multiple cameras for SIP audio and video calling.
So, in a nutshell, you have many great things to look forward to in Android 2.3 Gingerbread. You can also look forward to longer and more secure downloads on your Android smartphone. It’s quite evident that Android 2.3 is a huge improvement over Android 2.2 and the difference between heaven and hell for those still on 2.1 or lower.
Now look forward to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich because it has got plenty of new stuffs to offer though this update might not be available for older Android 2.2 Froyo running devices.
